As a young man growing up in the Bronx, there was a lack of educational and developmental programs for young people to engage in. Our playgrounds were not always safe to play in and activities were limited. For me, basketball became an important part of my life. It was an outlet for me.T.Y.C.E. also known as Train Your Craft Everyday started out as a program designed to develop basketball skill sets. Our initial goal was to provide fundamental sports training, enhance basketball court performance and to instill confidence in each player. Since inception in 2018, the T.Y.C.E program has evolved into so much more than I could have ever hoped for. With 45 active girls and boys we are not only providing a structured basketball program, but focusing on the academic life of the team members. We believe that education is the most important part of child development and due to this belief, we provide several avenues for them to achieve their goals. For example, we research S.A.T. prep classes, assist with college/ university applications as well as college tours for our older team members who are on the road to higher education. In order to provide multiple resources for different areas of study, we are working with companies to set-up workshops for kids aged 10-18 who aspire to work in the fields of Science and Technology, Fashion, Media and Production. We are in the developmental stage partnering with members of the New York Fashion District for kids interested in that Industry; exposing the youth to Media and Production for those interested in the areas of film, photography and digital marketing. Our team members are also required to attend community service events quarterly to learn the importance of giving back to others. With the help of The Special Olympics of New York this summer we were able to put together an amazing event for the Handicapable athletes of New York. This event helped teach our members that we are all fundamentally the same and universally connected.we volunteer at the feeding Westchester facility to bag and deliver groceries. Through your kindness and support today, we will continue to transform lives with this wonderful program. My goal as Founder and Head Coach of the T.Y.C.E. program is to help the inner-city kids strive for greatness.
